why

Often times I am asked "soooo how are those Cubs looking?" This question typically has one of two answers.... either GREAT or uggggh. So to track how the Cubs are doing (at least in my opinion) I give you the 2011 Cubs Hope/Despair Index which should track right along with the cubs performance through the baseball season.

UGGGGHHH! That pretty much sums it up.... Swept by Houston and then then St. Louis! The bottom line is that the cubs stink and despair is at an all time high and we haven't even reached the halfway mark.

The streams finally cross... after several weeks of losses, bad pitching, no hitting, and more players added to the DL. The Cubs are in next to last place and despair has finally overtaken hope as the reality sets in that this is likely going to be a very long and painful season.

5/15/2011 - 1:35am

Hope and Despair are equal for the first time this season as the Cubs are four and a half games out of first place and out of 6 games with St. Louis and Cinci they lost 4. There is still hope for the season as the Cubs still hint at having a good team if everything could come together.

The Cubs continue to struggle to stay at or get to 500 but are keeping hope alive as they are looking good in some of their outings.

Hope is back on the rise as the Cubs have some good outings and experience a brief stint at the top of the NL Central and now only sit a half game back.

4/13/2011 - 12:54pm

Despair on the rise as the cubs are a game under 500, two starters are on the DL, and I woke up this morning to see that they lost 11-2 to Houston

4/3/2011 - 8:30pm

Both indexes stay the same as the Cubs loose the opening series of the 2011 season but Zambrano goes 7 solid innings in the win yesterday and Garza throws 12Ks in today's loss.
